3 The Lord is a warrior;
the Lord is his name.
God had just delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians when they sang this song of praise to him. The Israelites won a major battle, but did no fighting, because the LORD fought for them.
In Exodus 14: 13-14, God says:
“13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Am I trying to fight my own battles? Am I rushing in, or straining under my own power? Yes. Sometimes I am. I need only to be still. I need to remember that the LORD is a warrior. YHWH is his name. Jesus is his name. Holy Spirit is his name. There is where I find my power: IN HIS NAME.
God, may my life glorify you. Not just in work, but in deed. Or even, in lack of deed. I will be still, and let YOU be GOD. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
